IWM North – Dig for Victory Garden
Fri 31st July — Thu 6th August
10.00am until 6.00pm
A garden designed to celebrate the Horrible Histories: Blitzed Brits exhibition.
Go back in time to 1940s Britain and step in to a wartime garden where all the pretty flowers have been ripped out to make way for lots and lots of vegetables. With the Second World War on, food is rationed so people have to get their hands muddy and grow their own instead. In IWM North’s garden, have a go at picking some veg, hold real wartime objects and weigh out a ration of sweets for the week.
Find out what people ate during the war (would you eat powdered egg or squirrel tale soup?!), and meet people who were evacuated to the countryside as children to escape the bombs in the cities. Perfect for families.
