Food & Drink
Book now to attend a very special Dig the City Dinner on Monday 5 August, 7.30pm, at Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant, in association with international tableware specialists Dudson.
The meal will be prepared by rising stars of the food world, Mary-Ellen McTague, Head Chef at Aumbry, and Great British Menu Finalist Lisa Allen, Head Chef of the Michelin starred Northcote.
Mary-Ellen and Lisa will create an exclusive 4-course menu for Dig the City, served overlooking the festival’s Show Gardens on New Cathedral Street. In the spirit of urban gardening, the menu will highlight foraged foods, local produce and food you can grow and cook at home from a small town garden.
Guests will enjoy a Dig the City drink on arrival. Mary-Ellen will serve the amuse and main course. Lisa Allen will serve the starter and dessert.
Amuse – Fresh young goats cheese, borage flowers and pickled turnip
Starter – Guinea Fowl with celeriac and garden salad
Main – Slow-roast longhorn beef, young peppery salad, nasturtium, oyster and pickled cockles
Dessert – Strawberry meringue and mint cake
The evening will close with a Coffee Q&A – a chance to hear about the inspiration behind the gardening-inspired menu.
Lisa joined Northcote under the mentorship of Nigel Haworth in 2001 and earned the position of Executive Chef in only three years. Lisa has earned many accolades, including successfully retaining Northcote’s Michelin star, being named Chef of the Year in the 2008 Northern Hospitality Awards and becoming one of four chefs to cook at a banquet hosted by Prince Charles in the BBC’s Great British Menu 2010.
The first female chef at Michelin-starred hotel Sharrow Bay, Mary-Ellen joined The Fat Duck in 2002 and progressed from the pastry section to become sous chef under Heston Blumenthal and Ashley Palmer-Watts. Mary-Ellen opened Aumbry in Prestwich with her husband in 2009, serving complex, subtle British dishes inspired by history and local produce. She reached the North West finals of BBC’s Great British Menu in 2013.
